What it is

The scans are usually internal (TVS) scans on several days of your cycle. The infertility biophysical profile looks at the womb, its lining, the ovaries and their blood flow, to help find possible reasons for difficulty getting pregnant. For men, a testis scan can be part of fertility checks.

How it's done

For follicle tracking you come in on the days your doctor suggests, often every one to three days in the middle of your cycle. Each visit is a short internal scan. Female assistants and attendants are present at the centre.

  • Timing intercourse or fertility treatment around ovulation
  • Checking how the ovaries respond to fertility medicines
  • Irregular periods

Before your scan

  • For follicular (egg) monitoring, examinations are generally performed around days 10, 11, 12 and 13 of the menstrual cycle.
  • An empty bladder is usually best for internal scans.
  • Bring your doctor's slip, the first day of your last period, and any earlier reports.
